Following the success of ‘Hanuman Ansh’, writer-director Vishal Chaturvedi is now set to tell the extraordinary story of Goswami Tulsidas with ‘RamBola’. Presented by Mahaveer Jain Films, the film will explore the saint-poet’s journey of devotion, transformation and spiritual awakening.

Writer-director Vishal Chaturvedi, whose recent film ‘Hanuman Ansh’ has made a strong impact, has announced his next project. Titled ‘RamBola’, the film will chronicle the extraordinary life and journey of Mahakavi Goswami Tulsidas, one of the most revered figures in India’s Bhakti tradition.

The film will be written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi and produced by Mahaveer Jain, Vishal Chaturvedi, Amit Upadhyay and Raghuvendra Singh. It is presented by Mahaveer Jain Films.

The film carries the tagline: ‘The Immortal Story of Goswami Tulsidas’.

Why Is the Film Called ‘RamBola’?

The title ‘RamBola’ has a direct connection with the traditional accounts surrounding Tulsidas’ early life.

According to popular tradition, the saint was named Rambola because the first word associated with his birth was ‘Ram’. The name eventually became closely connected with his deep devotion to Lord Ram.

The title, therefore, offers an early glimpse into the spiritual identity of the man who would go on to become one of the most influential poet-saints of the Bhakti movement.

Who Was Goswami Tulsidas?

Goswami Tulsidas is regarded as one of the most influential saint-poets of the Indian Bhakti tradition. A devoted follower of Lord Ram, he is best known for ‘Ramcharitmanas’, his celebrated retelling of the Ramayana in Awadhi.

Written in the 16th century, Ramcharitmanas played a major role in taking the story and ideals of Lord Ram to a much wider audience through the language of the people.

Tulsidas’ literary legacy extends beyond Ramcharitmanas. Works associated with him include Vinaya Patrika, Gitavali, Dohavali, Kavitavali, Janaki Mangal and Hanuman Bahuka. He is also traditionally credited with the Hanuman Chalisa, one of the most widely recited devotional compositions in India.

His significance goes beyond literature. His devotion to Lord Ram and his use of a widely understood regional language helped create a powerful connection between spirituality, poetry and everyday life.

What Will ‘RamBola’ Explore?

According to the makers, ‘RamBola’ will focus on the extraordinary journey of Goswami Tulsidas, bringing together the different facets of his life, devotion and transformation.

The film aims to introduce a timeless story of the Sant tradition to a contemporary audience while exploring the spiritual journey that shaped one of India’s most enduring literary voices.

The story of Tulsidas also offers filmmakers a vast cinematic canvas—from his early life and spiritual transformation to his devotion to Lord Ram and the creation of a literary legacy that continues to influence generations.

Vishal Chaturvedi Follows ‘Hanuman Ansh’ With Another Story From the Sant Tradition

The announcement of ‘RamBola’ comes after Vishal Chaturvedi’s ‘Hanuman Ansh’, a film inspired by the life and spiritual journey of Neem Karoli Baba.

The film became a notable box-office success, with its collections continuing to grow through strong audience word-of-mouth. Its performance also helped put Chaturvedi’s storytelling approach to stories rooted in spirituality and Indian tradition in the spotlight.

With ‘RamBola’, the filmmaker returns to another fascinating figure from India’s Sant tradition.

While ‘Hanuman Ansh’ explored the spiritual legacy of Neem Karoli Baba, ‘RamBola’ will turn its attention towards Goswami Tulsidas and the literary and devotional legacy he left behind.

Mahaveer Jain Films Builds an Interesting Line-Up

‘RamBola’ is also part of an increasingly diverse slate from Mahaveer Jain Films.

The production house has several interesting projects in its line-up, including ‘Naagzilla’, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and starring Kartik Aaryan; Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Yeh Prem Mol Liya’, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari; and ‘White’, starring Vikrant Massey and inspired by an event involving spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

With ‘RamBola’, the banner is adding a story rooted in Indian spirituality, literature and cultural history to its upcoming slate.

Star Cast and Release Date Yet to Be Announced

Details regarding the cast, shooting schedule and release date of ‘RamBola’ have not been announced yet.

For now, the makers have unveiled the film’s title, subject and creative team. The real anticipation will be to see how Vishal Chaturvedi transforms the extraordinary life of Goswami Tulsidas into a cinematic narrative for today's audience.
