What happens when a Pakistani spy loses his memory… and wakes up believing he is an Indian intelligence officer?

That is the crazy setup of ‘Udta Teer’, and the newly released trailer makes it clear that Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan are not playing it safe this time.

Ayushmann plays Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani intelligence operative who suffers memory loss after an explosion during his mission in India. The twist? He completely forgets who he really is and starts believing that he is an officer with India’s Counter-Terrorism Squad.

And suddenly, the spy sent to India has a new mission—protect India.

The film is directed by writer-turned-director Akash A. Kaushik in his feature directorial debut and is scheduled to hit cinemas on October 9, 2026.

A Pakistani Spy Who Thinks He Is Indian

The trailer wastes little time establishing its biggest comic hook.

Bilal arrives in India as a Pakistani operative. But after an accident leaves him with memory loss, his entire identity gets flipped.

He no longer remembers that he is a Pakistani spy.

Instead, he starts believing that he is an Indian officer.

What follows is exactly the kind of chaos the title promises.

Bilal becomes fiercely patriotic and begins acting against the very people he was originally working for. At one point, the trailer shows him helping Indian authorities catch Pakistani spies, while the people on the other side desperately try to make him remember his real identity.

So, technically, the mission has gone completely off the rails.

Sara Ali Khan Is on the Other Side of the Mystery

Sara Ali Khan plays a Counter-Terrorism Squad officer who gets caught up in Bilal’s bizarre situation.

The interesting part is that her character doesn't initially know his real identity.

That gives the film another layer of confusion—because Bilal is trying to behave like an Indian officer while the people around him have no idea that he is actually a Pakistani operative.

The trailer uses this mistaken-identity setup to create a mix of action, romance, comedy and spy drama.

And yes, there are explosions, fights and plenty of situations where Bilal seems to have absolutely no idea what is actually going on.

This Is Not Your Typical Spy Thriller

‘Udta Teer’ appears to be deliberately playing with the familiar Bollywood spy-film formula.

Instead of presenting a super-serious undercover agent who knows exactly what he is doing, the film gives us a protagonist who has forgotten which side he is actually on.

The trailer combines espionage with situational comedy, action sequences and satire. It even plays with fourth-wall-breaking humour, giving the film a knowingly exaggerated tone.

In other words, this is less serious spy mission and more “What if the spy forgot the mission?”

Ayushmann and Sara Are Back Together

‘Udta Teer’ brings Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan together again.

Interestingly, their other film together, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’, was released later, although Sara revealed that ‘Udta Teer’ was actually shot before that film.

That makes their pairing here quite different from their previous collaboration.

Sara's character is positioned within the film's spy-action world, while Ayushmann's Bilal is caught between his real identity and the identity he believes he has.

Ayushmann has also described the film as a spy comedy and a genre-bender, saying that he approaches a role by looking at what the script demands from him.

A Big Ensemble Around Them

The film has a sizeable supporting cast, including Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe.

The late actor Mukul Dev is also part of the film, making ‘Udta Teer’ one of his posthumous screen appearances.

With so many familiar faces packed into the story, the film is clearly aiming for an ensemble-comedy feel rather than relying only on its lead pair.

Akash A. Kaushik Makes His Directorial Debut

‘Udta Teer’ marks Akash A. Kaushik's feature directorial debut.

Kaushik is known as a writer, and this time he has moved into the director's chair with a story that mixes espionage, comedy and action.

The film is backed by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, with Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain credited as producers.

The two production houses have previously collaborated on projects including ‘Kill’, ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ and ‘The Lunchbox’.

Music Adds to the Madness

The music has been composed by Sachin-Jigar, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and music supervision by Azeem Dayani, according to the film's official trailer listing.

The trailer uses the music to amplify its fast-paced, chaotic energy rather than presenting itself as a conventional action thriller.

October 9 Is the Big Date

After the trailer launch, the film has officially entered the final stretch of its theatrical campaign.

‘Udta Teer’ releases in cinemas worldwide on October 9, 2026.

And the biggest question hanging over the film is a simple one:

Will Bilal ever remember that he is actually a Pakistani spy—or will he continue being the Indian hero he thinks he has become?

Because if the trailer is anything to go by, this mission is going to be anything but normal.
