Veteran actor bid a tearful farewell in Mumbai

Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, best known for playing Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat and the menacing antagonist in Ghajini, was cremated in Mumbai on Wednesday. The 74-year-old actor passed away a day earlier after a prolonged battle with blood cancer.

Family members, close friends, colleagues from the film industry, and admirers gathered to pay their final respects to the actor, whose performances left an unforgettable mark on Indian cinema.

Lost his battle with blood cancer

Pradeep Rawat had been undergoing treatment for blood cancer for quite some time. Although he had successfully recovered once, his health deteriorated again in recent months.

News of his passing sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry, with actors, filmmakers, and fans mourning the loss of one of Indian cinema's most dependable character actors.

'Mahabharat' made him a household name

While younger audiences remember him as the terrifying villain from Ghajini, Pradeep Rawat first rose to fame through B.R. Chopra's iconic television series Mahabharat, where he portrayed Ashwatthama.

His powerful performance earned him nationwide recognition and opened the doors to a successful career in films.

From Lagaan to Ghajini, a remarkable journey

Over a career spanning more than four decades, Rawat delivered memorable performances in films such as Lagaan, Sarfarosh, Baadshah, The Hero, and Ghajini.

His commanding screen presence and intense performances made him one of Bollywood's most respected villains. Whether playing a ruthless antagonist or a strong supporting character, Rawat always left a lasting impression.

A celebrated face in South Indian cinema

Pradeep Rawat was equally admired in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam cinema.

Films like Sye, Chatrapathi, Desamuduru, and Stalin established him as one of the most sought-after villains in South India. His versatility allowed him to build a successful career across multiple film industries.

A private life away from the spotlight

Despite his popularity, Rawat preferred to keep his personal life away from public attention.

He is survived by his wife, Kalyani Rawat, and their two sons. Friends and colleagues often described him as a humble, disciplined, and warm-hearted person off-screen.

An irreplaceable loss for Indian cinema

Pradeep Rawat never chased stardom, but his performances made him unforgettable.

From Mahabharat's Ashwatthama to the iconic villain in Ghajini, he proved that memorable character actors play a crucial role in making stories timeless. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of actors and entertain audiences for years to come.
