Toxic Trailer Review: Four Minutes and Thirty Eight Seconds Later, the Biggest Question Still Remains — Where Is the Story?

Yash returns with Toxic, but does the 4-minute 38-second trailer deliver more than style? While the visuals and action impress, the narrative remains frustratingly vague. Here's OnScreenBuzz's brutally honest take on the trailer.

A visually extravagant trailer that leaves the narrative frustratingly out of focus

Yash's return after the phenomenal success of KGF was always going to be one of the biggest cinematic events of the year. With Geetu Mohandas directing and an ensemble cast featuring Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, Toxic arrived carrying enormous expectations. Unfortunately, after watching its 4 minute 38 second trailer, the biggest takeaway isn't excitement—it's confusion. The trailer delivers scale, spectacle and style, but struggles to tell audiences what the film is actually trying to say.

The trailer is obsessed with looking cool, but forgets to tell a compelling story

Every frame is designed to grab attention. Stylish action, expensive production design, dramatic lighting and slow motion sequences dominate the trailer from start to finish. However, beneath all the visual polish, there is surprisingly little narrative clarity. Instead of introducing viewers to a world and its central conflict, the trailer keeps jumping between disconnected moments, expecting style alone to hold everything together. By the end, you remember individual shots, but not the story connecting them.

Yash owns every frame, but his character remains emotionally distant

There is no denying Yash's charisma. He looks confident, intimidating and completely in control of every sequence. His presence alone gives several scenes weight. The problem is that the trailer never explains who he really is beyond his stylish exterior. What drives him? What has he lost? Why is he fighting? None of these questions receive enough attention. The trailer celebrates Yash the superstar but barely introduces Yash the character.

A massive cast appears, but none of the characters leave a lasting impression

With actors like Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, one would expect the trailer to establish meaningful relationships and emotional stakes. Instead, most characters are reduced to visually striking appearances. They enter, deliver a few expressions or action shots and disappear before creating any emotional impact. The trailer sells faces instead of personalities, making it difficult to invest in anyone beyond the film's visual appeal.

Action keeps escalating, but the emotional stakes remain flat

Bullets fly. Explosions fill the screen. Blood spills. Slow motion dominates almost every major moment. Initially, the spectacle is entertaining, but constant escalation without emotional context eventually becomes exhausting. Great action sequences work because audiences understand what is at stake. Here, the violence feels more like a visual exercise than an extension of the story. Bigger explosions do not automatically create bigger emotions.

Technically, the film looks spectacular

If there is one department where Toxic deserves praise, it is its technical execution. The cinematography is stunning, the production design looks grand, the colour grading creates a distinctive visual identity and the background score adds scale to almost every sequence. The craftsmanship is evident in every frame. Unfortunately, all this technical excellence often feels like expensive packaging around a story that still refuses to reveal itself.

Mystery works only when there is enough to hold on to

There is a difference between creating intrigue and leaving audiences confused. Toxic leans heavily towards the latter. A trailer should leave viewers desperate to know what happens next. Here, it leaves them wondering what they just watched. Instead of building anticipation through storytelling, it relies almost entirely on mood, style and star power.

OnScreenBuzz Verdict

Toxic undoubtedly looks like one of the most expensive and visually ambitious Indian films in recent years. Yash commands attention, the visuals are breathtaking and the technical team deserves full credit for creating an impressive cinematic experience. However, a trailer is ultimately judged by how effectively it sells its story. On that front, Toxic falls surprisingly short.

After 4 minutes and 38 seconds, the visuals impress, the action entertains, but the biggest question remains unanswered.

What exactly is the story that this film is trying to tell?
